What Time is It?
Time to buy a new umbrella. Seriously, check this out:

I think it's raining right through his umbrella. Maybe it's just that fancy artistic thing called "perspective," and we're just seeing the raindrops in the background. But, in my paper, this was the strip right above it, so it looked even weirder:

Whatever, Drabble. Get a better umbrella, and you won't be so miserable.
Still taking votes and nominations for worst Family Circus in February. Vote for one of the three, or choose your own and tell me why it's so bad (bigalscomicblog@yahoo.com). The Organ Donor has a very slight lead (or does it? You know, it's the one I'm backing, and since this is my blog, and I'm the one counting the votes. . . It'll be like Florida 2000 all over again unless I get an independent auditor). Of course, you can also comment publicly. And maybe I should subtract a vote, since the organ donor post did get a negative comment . . .

I can't believe more people are not finding the 2/14 post the worst. I think you might be stuffing (emptying?) the ballot box.
Re: Drabble drizzle, I don't get it at all, however, I get the "Last Laugh" even less.
Maybe I'm getting stupid in my old age...
No you aren't getting stupid. I cut the last panel from Drabble. It was the duck saying, "Every day is a good day to be a duck." Funny? No. I can think of plenty of days when it's not good to be a duck -- like when the Chinese restaurant comes calling.
I also cut the Last Laugh one too. The guy's in a cemetery and the tombstone he's looking at says "HA HA HA." That's from Non Sequitor. Not the greatest N.S., but still OK.
How are you supposed to draw umbrella coverage? It seems universal in comics that no rain underneath the umbrella signifies that it's working. But if you were looking from the side (such as in Drabble), you would also see rain, just like the strip. Maybe drabble has it right.
Does the duck have a waddle underneath its chin?

I like the Sunday Drabbles. For some reason those are usually funny to me. The weekday ones are weaker. I still like it overall though. I don't know how I'd draw something like that either...I haven't attempted it. If I ever do I'll try to make it...better.
Here's a theory inspired by Sullivan's observation: "The Last Laugh" has the rain drawn in continuous lines whereas "Drabble" has it drawn in groups of short lines. Maybe the first group of short lines is supposed to represent the rain falling behind the person (his left)with the the next set of lines representing the rain falling in front of the person (his right). These alternating groups fill the panel so that there is a more "accurate" depiction of the rain falling around the umbrella.
