Do I really, really think this strip is anti-Semitic? Well, the very first thing that crossed my mind upon reading it was, "Hmmmm . .. I wonder if they know where most U.S. foreign aid traditionally goes??" And, then, yes, exaggerating . . . I thought - ANTI-SEMITES!!

I didn't see that WP Magazine article m. mariel mentioned, but there does seem to be a tendency (in some circles) to label any critisism of Israel, or of the U.S.'s pro-Israel policies as anti-Semitic.

I don't recall Shoe ever being so overtly political before (drunken bird senators aside), so I just found this to be an interesting toe-dip into politics.

Maybe she's exaggerating? I've noticed that people are really quick to jump on something seemingly innocuous as "anti-semetic." B.C. is a good example. QUite franky, it HAS BEEN anti-semetic, but once it gets that label it seems that people look for hints of antisemitism in every strip.

THE Washington Post magazine recently did a piece on the fact that questioning of aid to Israel and support of AIPAC often gets critics labeled as "anti semetic," even though its a debate that's probably worth having.

This may be more thought than necessary given that this is a SHOE strip.!

While saying that foreign aid is the same thing as treason is a dumb comment, I think it's wrong of you to say that it's anti-semitic. Please don't label anyone anti-semitic unless he says that Jews are bad. I think the strip may refer to the times when we've given aid to despots who've turned against us later. Saddam Hussein once received aid and praise from the US government, and we're very sorry now. We even gave weapons and training to Osama Bin Laden's army, back when he fought the Soviet Union in Afghanistan.
